God is perfect to the fullest sense of the Word! Therefore there cannot be an increase or a decrease of any virtue that He possesses.

The Bible declares: God is love. (1 John 4:8)

His love is perfect. His love is complete. He is love, and the source of love. Jesus said: For God so loved the world. (John 3:16)

Paul adds: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

God Himself says: Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee. (Jeremiah 31:3)

His love for us, and all His creatures, is an “everlasting love”. That love never changes. He loves us in spite of what we are. That is amazing love! Therefore, Jesus said: Love your enemies. (Matthew 5:44)

Because God loves all people without any difference-whether people love Him back or not-God’s love is strong for all. There cannot be any increase or decrease in God’s love. His love is infinite. It cannot be measured. Paul wrote: What is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge. (Ephesians 3:18, 19)

His love “passeth knowledge”; it is beyond all comprehension. Knowledge cannot fully understand it; it has to be experienced. It is an eternal experience. Jesus made a very touching statement. While praying to His Father, about us He said: And hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (John 17:23)

Can you imagine that the Father loves us equally, the same way, as He loves His own Son? Unfathomable, but true! From God’s side, He cannot decrease or increase in love, or in any of His virtues. He is the perfection of all. Nothing can be added to make anything better in God. But from our side, we are always capable of increasing in all virtues. By the passing of time here, and for all eternity, all of us, and also all other intellectual creatures everywhere, will increase in all good aspects of life.

ONE MIGHT SAY: Doesn’t Jeremiah declare the newness of God’s love every day? The prophet wrote: It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (Lamentation 3:21, 22)

His compassion or His love is “new every morning”. It does not say it increases every morning. God’s love is very deep. Eternity is not enough to discover the greatness of His love. We will be learning new aspects of His love for all eternity. Not that God is improving in His virtues; we increase in our understanding of it. To us it is coming ever fresh and new every morning! He was, and will be, as He now is: God is love. (1 John 4:8)
