The most precious text of John 3:16 declares that “whosoever” believes in Jesus will be saved. So the invitation is to all who are willing to accept the truth. But the sad fact is that not all are interested in salvation. So only those who are genuinely interested and meet the simple conditions will reap the benefits. Therefore though “all” have the provision only “many” or a “few” will benefit from it, as they seek for it.

Look at another example of “all” and “many”. Jesus said:

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (Matthew 26:28)

And John the apostle talking about the same subject said:

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2)

The mathematics of salvation is simple. From God’s side all are included and all are invited to freely receive the remission of sins.

But from the man’s side not all respond; only those who are interested respond to the invitation to freely receive remission.

Thus, giving His life a “ransom for all” and a “ransom for many” are the two sides of the same truth-God’s invitation and man’s response!
